The Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship for Visually Impaired Students, established in 1991 for students at San Francisco State and San José State University, is now available to all 23 campuses of the California State University (CSU) system.

This scholarship was made possible by a generous $4.8 million bequest from Mr. Dale M. Schoettler’s estate following his passing in 2001. The aim is to expand the existing financial aid program for legally blind students.

Eligibility for this scholarship is open to all part-time undergraduate and graduate students in any major field, who are enrolled in 6.1 units or more during the academic year in which they receive the award. Applicants must have a visual disability that hinders their educational progress and necessitates accommodations, support services, or programs.

They are required to provide verification from a medical health professional, including notations of their best corrected visual acuity. Additionally, applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.8 and meet the legal blindness criteria.

The specific benefits and monetary value of the scholarship are currently undisclosed. To apply, students should log into their CSU portal and access the “Scholarships” app located on the left-hand side. They need to follow the on-screen instructions and complete the 2023-2024 CSU Systemwide Scholarship Application.

Please ensure that all application materials and communications are in English.
